Round 1:  Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

According to assessment from Walter Football early on in the season, Williams would be better suited at right tackle in the NFL. However, as the season has gone on, he’s proven to be a good protector for both Jalen Hurts and Tua Tugavaiola.

One of the things that stands out is his intelligence. He’s a smart football player who understand angles. He’s also athletic and can pull if needed. He doesn’t lose a lot in the run or pass game, and that versatility is key to his success at left tackle in the NFL.

The Jets do have a serviceable left tackle in Kelvin Beachum, but they could use an upgrade at the most important position on the field. Williams would undoubtedly provide the upgrade Gang Green needs. With Brandon Shell finally showing signs of improvement, that might relegate Beachum  to the bench as a backup tackle.

The Jets need at least an above average left tackle for Sam Darnold to be comfortable in the pocket. Darnold is more than capable of reading defenses and finding the right receiver, if given the time, and Williams is the guy that will help give Darnold the time he needs to go through his progressions and find the open receiver.
