Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator: Lincoln Riley

Lincoln Riley is seen as the next big thing in the NFL, even though he’s only spent four years at the college level above position coach. However, in his three-plus seasons at Oklahoma, the Sooners offense has been one of the best in the nation.

As a play caller, he’s overseen one of the best offenses in the nation. They have been in the top 10 in scoring and total offense since he took over as offensive coordinator and continue to roll since he took over as head coach for Bob Stoops.

With the new rules favoring offense in the NFL — and many teams employing college concepts regularly — the jump from college to the pros may be more viable than it used to be. That being said, there have only been two successful jumps straight to the NFL (based on Super Bowl wins). So, it’s a huge risk, but one with big payoff if it works.

The Rams took a chance on Sean McVay, given his age. Riley is older than McVay, but less experienced from an NFL standpoint. With the way things are working in Kansas City and Los Angeles, the old notion that the head coach shouldn’t call plays is out the window. Riley is the next guy up, and the arrow seems to be squarely pointed in that direction.
