The offensive line is still the worst unit on the team

The Seahawks don’t seem invested enough in protecting their franchise quarterback. Granted starting guard D.J. Fluker was injured and didn’t play, but that alone doesn’t make up for how bad the offensive line was.

The Seahawks offensive line allowed four sacks and nine quarterback hits against the Rams. Russell Wilson has now been sacked 29 times in 2018. That means he’s on pace to be sacked 51 times this season, which would be the most times in his career.

For a team that wants to compete in the playoffs this is just unacceptable. Think about it, Wilson has been sacked more times than Derek Carr! And Carr’s team is 1-8! Just how many more games or seasons will the Seahawks allow their line to expose Wilson to unnecessary pressure?

The exclamation mark on how bad the line has been was the strip sack by the Rams Dante Fowler down the stretch in the game. The turnover gave the Rams the ball in prime scoring position and robbed the Seahawks of an entire crucial offensive drive. The final outcome of the turnover made it so the Seahawks needed a touchdown at the end of the game instead of a field goal.

Wilson needs a better offensive line. Even if he can scramble and extend plays, he clearly is being hit to many times this season. Even he can’t escape the pressure he’s facing. And playing in the same division as Aaron Donald, Chandler Jones, DeForest Buckner and Ndamukong Suh has and will continuously hamper the offense. If it’s all Pete Carroll does this offseason, the offensive line needs to be fixed up.
