The New York Giants improved to 4-8 on the season with a 30-27 overtime victory over the Chicago Bears. Here we take a look at Big Blue’s report card.

It’s report card time again for the New York Giants following their thrilling 30-27 overtime triumph over the Chicago Bears Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

The G-Men finally showed grit and character in this contest and improved to 4-8, while the NFC North-leading Bears dropped to 8-4.

Let’s take a look at the report card for the G-Men:

Offense

Another day, another outstanding performance from rookie halfback Saquon Barkley: 125 yards on 24 carries. The Penn State product now has 954 rushing yards and 1,556 total yards from scrimmage this season. Odell Beckham, Jr. (three receptions for 35 yards, one touchdown) tossed his second touchdown pass of the season, a 49-yarder to a wide open Russell Shepard in the third quarter.

Eli Manning (19-of-35, 170 yards, one touchdown, one interception) was mediocre at best and was sacked three times. Tight end Rhett Ellison enjoyed one of his better outings in place of Evan Engram with four catches for 42 yards.

Defense

Outside linebacker Alec Ogletree was spectacular with a team-leading 10 tackles and two interceptions, the first one which he returned for eight yards and a touchdown to give Big Blue an early 7-0 lead. Olivier Vernon had his finest outing of 2018 with a pair of sacks and two tackles for loss.

B.J. Hill was a force with a team-high three sacks of Chicago quarterback Chase Daniel. The Giants finally put pressure on the opposing signal-caller, something that was lacking all season. Their defensive unit looked inspired for the first time all season. Long overdue. Janoris Jenkins was active in the defensive backfield with three passes defensed.

Special Teams

Aldrick Rosas connected on all three field goal attempts, including a Giants record 57-yarder. He’s had a Pro Bowl campaign with just one miss in 27 tries. Four of his made field goals have been from 50 yards or more. Jawill Davis averaged 12 yards on three punt returns while Riley Dixon averaged 44.3 yards on seven punts. This grade would have been higher if not for Beckham shying away from recovering an onside kick.
