It’s no secret the Bears need help along the offensive line. Although it’s not a huge sore thumb at this point, more depth along the interior will be a priority — especially with Kyle Long’s proneness to injury.

Hence, it makes sense for Chicago to target an interior blocker when they’re finally on the clock in the third round. Although it may be tough to find a prospect capable of contributing immediately at that point in the draft, Ben Powers seems to be a quality target who could quickly outplay his draft positioning.

A tough, nasty blocker at the guard spot, Powers wins by simply outworking and outmuscling opponents. Although he needs refinement as a pass protector and doesn’t possess pristine technique, he’s shown over the years that he’s got the physical tools to develop into a capable contributor at the next level.

Right now, some folks have Powers going as early as the end of the first round. While I don’t quite think his stock is that high, there’s potential for the Oklahoma product to climb in the coming months. If the Bears are invested in protecting Trubisky and opening holes for their outstanding running back duo, adding talent up front is imperative.
