Trubisky should be back on target

In their first matchup, Trubisky thought he had himself a win. He completed 23 of 35 passes for 171 yards. He also ran for 32 yards and a touchdown. Everything was going to plan as he led the Bears to a 20-0 lead. Then the coaching staff got conservative and the offense bogged down.

Part of the reason for that conservatism was because it was Trubisky’s first time running this system. He’s had a lot more time to digest the offensive scheme. He has a great grasp of the ball now.

The problem is he went about three weeks before he finally threw a pass with meaning. He injured his shoulder in Week 11 and didn’t play again until Week 14. The rust was noticeable. He threw three interceptions against the Rams. A lot of his passes sailed over the heads of his targets.

Trubisky can work out the rust against the Packers. Though Green Bay ranks eighth in passing yards allowed and 16th in passing touchdowns allowed, this is a defense that has struggled. In their past eight games, they allowed an average of 374.6 yards per game. In those games, they gave up over 400 yards four times.

Trubisky can gain some yards if he can get back on track. He can also use his legs to pick up some first downs. When he gets into some rhythm this offense is like a well-oiled machine. He’d also like to finish the job he started in the first game. He’ll be able to do more, and if he does the entire city of Chicago will celebrate with him.
