Round 3: Jace Sternberger, TE, Texas A&M

The Cowboys have done a solid job investing in their receivers. Amari Cooper is fantastic while rookie third-round Michael Gallup has shown promise and progression. And Cole Beasley remains a reliable target out of the slot. However, Jason Garrett’s offense hasn’t looked the same since Jason Witten retired.

As a matter of fact, there were rumors the Cowboys tried to lure Witten out of the Monday Night Football booth. Witten isn’t coming back, but the 2019 NFL Draft class is deep at the tight end position and can offer Dallas a longer-term solution.

Jace Sternberger out of Texas A&M is the type of player suited for the Dallas Cowboys. For starters, he’s right in their backyard, playing in College Station. With some coaching, he’ll be an added bonus to the run game. Sternberger is strong and willing run blocker with great potential. That fits right into what Dallas likes to do, pounding the rock with Ezekiel Elliott.

As a receiver, he’s a box-out type of guy. He’s lengthy and provides his quarterback with a great catch radius. While he’s not the greatest route runner, he does offer speed and athleticism. After the catch, he’s a terror to bring down. Those traits make him intriguing moving forward if his route-running can develop further at the pro level.

Dak Prescott is a play action reliant quarterback who needs that safety net at tight end. Sternberger can provide that for the Cowboys signal-caller.
