Seattle Seahawks: 5 Reasons they can win Super Bowl 53
By Samuel Teets
They play to the level of their opponent
How else can you explain the Seahawks beating the Chiefs one week after losing to the San Francisco 49ers? The Seahawks perform at their best when they face challenging teams like the Chiefs, Rams, and Vikings. So, in a way, any game in the playoffs benefit Seattle because all the teams left are at the very least good.
Watching the 49ers beat the Seahawks late in the season was perplexing. It certainly wasn’t expected, especially because it happened the week after Seattle clobbered the Vikings. The whole pattern makes a lot more sense though if you look at the season as a whole. The Seahawks won or lost seven games this season by three points or less. That includes a loss against the Rams and a win against the Arizona Cardinals. Those two teams are on the opposite ends of the league’s power rankings, yet Seattle played them both extremely close.
What if we broaden the spectrum a little bit? How many games did the Seahawks win or lose where the point differential was seven or less? 10. Seattle won or lost by a touchdown and an extra point in over sixty percent of their games this season! For reference, the Rams had seven such games, but it felt like Los Angeles was in the driver seat more often than not in those contests.
The Seahawks at points seemed inconsistent this season and that’s mostly because their play is consistent with the play of their opponents. The Seahawks show up for big games, and now that we’re in the month of January, that’s all the NFL has left. For Seattle’s road to Atlanta, there are three big games until the Super Bowl. Fans are in for some close games in the coming weeks.
