The Washington Redskins have a lot of decisions to make this offseason. One that should be a no-brainer is re-signing safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

There was a lot of excitement surrounding the trade that brought Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins. Pairing him with D.J. Swearinger seemed like something that could hold the secondary together nicely for years.

Instead, Clinton-Dix didn’t live up to the hype that some fans had for him, and we all know what happened with Swearinger. Due to all that, there may be some questions surrounding Clinton-Dix as the offseason gets closer. Mainly pertaining to his impending free agency.

There are a few pretty simple reasons as to why bringing him back should be a no-brainer for the Redskins.

First, there’s the fact that Clinton-Dix was by no means a bust. Sure he didn’t pick off a pass, but in nine games, the safety did manage 65 tackles and a forced fumble. He also deflected three passes and knows how to roam.

Then there’s his age. At 26, Clinton-Dix’s best football could easily still be ahead of him. At the same time though, he’s experienced enough that you don’t have to worry about growing pains.

Finally, there’s the departure of Swearinger. With Swearinger gone, the Redskins secondary (especially the safety position) is in need of veteran leadership. Josh Norman is there for the cornerbacks, but there’s a chance he’s not on the roster next season either. It would be tough for Washington to head into next season without the two guys that – at the midway point of last year – many assumed to be their safety duo for years to come.

All signs point to the right move being retaining his services. Clinton-Dix is one of the best on the market and is still young. He’s now familiar with the Redskins roster and defensive playbook which should only serve to help his performance on the field. On top of all that, the Redskins are clearly in need of safeties and shouldn’t let someone like Clinton-Dix slip through their fingers.

If there’s any argument against him, it’s that Ha Ha Clinton-Dix won’t come cheap. That being said, he’s not someone that you’ll have to absolutely break the bank for either. Therefore, this isn’t much of an argument either.

One New Year's resolution for every NFL team. dark. Next

In the end, everyone can agree that the Washington Redskins are in no position to be picky about their safeties. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was a solid addition midway through last season, and deserves the chance to prove he can be a pro-bowler in Washington.
