The New York Giants are widely believed to be after a quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft, and early indications are that the team has their eyes on three.
By all accounts, the Eli Manning era with the New York Giants has ended — whether that means we get one more year of him at the helm of the offense or not, of course, remains to be seen. Even still, the prevailing sentiment from fans and analysts alike is that the Giants will make a move that many felt they should have in the 2018 NFL Draft by taking their potential franchise quarterback in the 2019 draft.
Of course, there are number of quarterback-needy teams entering the 2019 draft. As of now — more pointedly, before any trades have been made — the Giants are the first overtly needy team at the position that will be selecting come April 25. As such, which quarterback they favor is a big storyline.
Not only will the Giants selection of a quarterback determine the options left on the board for the quarterback-needy teams picking after them, but that could potentially create a bit of chaos in regards to other teams trying to move for guys they didn’t expect to be available.

Thus, there will be countless reports over the next three months about the guys that the Giants are interested at the quarterback position, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see those names change. As we sit at the end of January, though, we’re getting some early rumblings about who the Big Blue brass is interested in.
According to Charlie Campbell of Walter Football, the three quarterbacks that the Giants currently “like” are Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray out of Oklahoma, Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State and Daniel Jones from Duke. This chatter, of course, comes out of Mobile, AL as teams are gathered for the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
Now, with NFL Draft rumors this early in the process, you have to take them with a grain of salt. There is a lot left to come in the evaluation process in regards to testing, interviews and so on. Having said that, this is some of the first real chatter that we’ve had, so it’s worth noting at the very least.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the trio of quarterbacks mentioned in the report is the exclusion of guys like Drew Lock out of Missouri and Will Grier out of West Virginia. They could, of course, creep into the conversation, but the fact that they are left out does seem to give some noteworthy specificity to the three targets for the Giants.
Regardless, though, this will be a storyline all the way up to April 25 for the New York Giants. Maybe this is real, maybe it’s an early smokescreen. Either way, don’t expect this to be the last quarterback-centric rumor you hear about the G-Men and the 2019 draft.
