Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB, Houston Texans

The Packers defense is about to undergo significant changes this offseason.

Clay Matthews is headed for free agency, and may not be retained. The Packers would probably like to move Nick Perry, and may do what they can to find a taker. Even if just those two are gone, this will look like a completely different unit in 2019.

If they’re gone, more talent will be needed on the edge. Kyler Fackrell enjoyed a breakout 2018 campaign, tallying 10.5 sacks and leading the Packers in that department. Beyond him, though, Green Bay doesn’t boast much edge rushing ability. Either way, finding a impact player who can rush opposing quarterbacks will be imperative this offseason.

Hence the inclusion of Jadeveon Clowney on this list.

If the opportunity arises, the Packers would absolutely jump at the chance to sign Clowney. He’s a near-elite talent who has flashed the ability to be an impactful presence. When he’s healthy and on top of his game, the former No. 1 overall pick is among the best edge rushers in the NFL.

With his combination of size, speed and athleticism, Clowney checks off all the boxes for a premier pass rusher. If the Texans decide to let him walk this offseason, the Packers better blow up his agent’s phone in hopes of convincing him to sign on the dotted line.
