Round 1, Pick 24: Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma

Baseball or football? Does he even know? Kyler Murray recently stated that he wishes he could play both and, per Pro Football Talk, “mused about the possibility of also playing for the Raiders” so that he could stay in Oakland for both sports.

This does not add up with the fact that the team will not be in Oakland for much longer. Whatever the case, it is apparent that even Murray himself is not quite sure what to do, but he is due to report to the Athletics by Feb. 15, so a decision is coming soon.

The organization has not fully committed to Derek Carr under center as it seems like Gruden would rather have his own guy. Murray could be that guy. In a weak quarterback class, and without a trade up or taking one with the fourth pick, Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock will both be gone.

The Heisman Trophy winner out of Oklahoma may be using the NFL as leverage with the Athletics, and he does not quite have the size one would like to see in a professional quarterback, but he has a certain amount of flash and tape that at least one team may take the jump and nab him in the first round. Gruden’s impulses are all that it takes for Murray to come off of the board on day one.
