Seattle Seahawks: Big names to target during 2019 NFL free agency
Rodger Saffold, G, Los Angeles Rams
The offensive line market is going to be thin this offseason. There aren’t a ton of big-name players set to be available, with most of the offensive tackles falling into the “upside” category. The most established option is Rodger Saffold, who could slide right in and start at left guard.

Seeing as J.R. Sweezy didn’t exactly shine in the spot in 2018, replacing him with Saffold makes plenty of sense. That is, if the Los Angeles Rams even let him leave. There’s a belief that Saffold wants to stay put, but the Rams may not be willing to throw big money at him. If that ends up being the case, the Seahawks could swoop in and steal him away from their divisional rivals.
Now going all-in on Saffold isn’t necessary. Seattle showed massive improvement along the front five in 2018, although the coaching change probably played a big part in that. However, considering how Sweezy played, it safes to assume they wouldn’t pass on the opportunity to upgrade.
If Saffold becomes available, the Seahawks would be wise to kick the tires. He may be almost 31 years old, but he’s an outstanding starting guard who could make the Seattle ground game even better in 2019. Oh, and Russell Wilson will appreciate his presence as a quality pass protector.
