Super Bowl 53: 5 Players that failed to show up in Patriots vs. Rams
By Samuel Teets
Todd Gurley, Los Angeles Rams
I don’t know what is wrong with Gurley. I’m sure we’ll hear exactly what is going on at some point this offseason, but I really want to know why he’s been so limited over the last few weeks. He can claim he’s at 100 percent all he wants, but it’s extremely hard to believe it at the point.
C.J. Anderson has played well for the Rams, but he’s not even close to how good Gurley can be when he’s running well. I want to know why Gurley’s role in the offense was cut down so much.
Gurley carried the ball 16 times for 115 yards in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, but he’s been a no-show since then. In the NFC Championship Game, Gurley only carried the ball four times for 10 yards. Then, in the Super Bowl, he ran just ten times for 35 yards.
The Rams as a team only ran the ball 18 times while the Patriots ran 35 times, including two negative yardage runs by Brady. I just don’t see how Gurley, who ran the ball 18 times per game during the regular season, did not get more work. This is the same running back who was one of the people in play for Offensive Player of the Year honors this season.
This whole situation only makes sense if Gurley is hurt at not playing at his full ability.
