Super Bowl 53: 5 Players that failed to show up in Patriots vs. Rams
By Samuel Teets
Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams
When did things start going wrong for Goff? He looked like a legitimate MVP candidate early on in the season, but in Week 13 everything began to crumble. Since then Goff has turned in weak performances more consistently than the Pro Bowl caliber ones he’s capable of producing. In what has to be a soul-crushing playoff run, the 24-year old threw just one touchdown compared to two interceptions in the three games.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think Goff is a key member of the youth movement going through the NFL right now, but we definitely got to see plenty of his flaws in the playoffs. I just hope he’s able to find his confidence again this offseason because things looked brutal out there on Super Bowl Sunday.
Goff finished going merely 19-of-38 against the Patriots with an interception and a 57.9 quarterback rating. That’s not exactly what was expected of a Pro Bowl quarterback playing in McVay’s offense.
I’m willing to cut Goff some slack because he is just 24, but the great quarterbacks find ways to win, even if that means just not making mistakes. I mean, Brady threw for 145 yards and a touchdown in his first Super Bowl and that was it. While part of that was thanks to great work by the Patriots defense, Brady eased his way into his Super Bowl experiences with the help of Bill Belichick. If only Goff and McVay had taken the same path.
