WR Tyrell Williams

Tyrell Williams, age 26, will hit the open market and is not expected to resign with the Los Angeles Chargers after declaring that he is seeking an opportunity to become a number-one wide receiver. It just so happens that Sam Darnold and the Jets are in need of a reliable target, and the 6-4, 205-pound receiver could give the team the big body that they need outside the numbers.

After catching almost 70 passes and over 1,000 yards in just his second professional season in 2016, Williams’ numbers have dropped off a bit over the past two seasons. Although his numbers took a slight dip, it was not due to talent, but rather the overcrowding of a wide receiver room as Keenan Allen returned from injury and the team invested a top-10 pick in Mike Williams as well.

Both of the team’s top two receiving options, Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse, enter the 2019 offseason as free agents and it would be safe to bet that Anderson should return while the team will be looking to replace Kearse. For a team that has about $60 million in cap space, Williams could be a realistic and cost efficient option to play outside the numbers for the Jets this offseason.
