6. Dru Samia, OG, Oklahoma

No matter who’s behind center for the Redskins in 2019, they’ll have to address the offensive line. When healthy and intact, the group can be good, but they need depth and potentially an upgrade at offensive guard.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Oklahoma guard, Dru Samia is a lineman who would fit ideally in Gruden’s offense. Samia is an elite athlete who doesn’t win with power, but instead uses quickness and technique to earn victories in the trenches. Samia is 6-5 just under 300 pounds. As a pass protector, power rushers haven’t overwhelmed him. In fact, when tasked with an elite defensive matchup in Alabama in the College Football Playoff, Samia performed well.

Because of his savviness and hand placement, he’s a solid run blocker. Samia brings necessary versatility to the table as well as the Redskins offense employs both zone and power blocking concepts.

The backfield that may or may not include Adrian Peterson will become the focal point of the offense. With Alex Smith potentially out and no one behind Colt McCoy, Gruden will be forced to rely on the ground game.

Bolstering the interior offensive line with a player like Samia needs to happen. Their offensive line was a strength last season (2018) when healthy, and it should be again in 2019. The added bonus is the time Samia spent at right tackle. The Redskins can land Samia in on Day 2 or 3 of the 2019 NFL Draft if they’re lucky.
