2. Arizona Hotshots

The Arizona Hotshots played in the finale of Week 1 in the AAF and looked quite impressive as one of the early favorites in the league in their inaugural season. The Hotshots played at home and took on a solid Salt Lake City Stallions team and handled them pretty convincingly, putting on an offensive show as they earned a 38-22 victory to begin their season.

While the Hotshots defense wasn’t out of this world by any stretch of the imagination, they played solidly enough to get the win. And with the way that their offense looked, they didn’t have to do all that much.

Former Wake Forest standout John Wolford tossed four touchdowns and no interceptions on the day while Jhurell Pressley proved to be a versatile threat and Rashad Ross burned the Stallions defense all day long with 103 yards receiving. This team is going to be a problem for anyone to stop.

1. Orlando Apollos

The Orlando Apollos finished Week 1 in The Alliance with the greatest margin of victory, putting the Atlanta Legends into the dirt and rubbing their faces in it to the tune of a 40-6 victory. Steve Spurrier’s team looked like the class of the AAF, even if they were taking on a team that might be one of the worst in the league as the season wears on.

Garrett Gilbert (15-of-25, 227, two touchdowns, no interceptions) looked like one of the few competent quarterbacks in the league. Akeem Hunt, De’Veon Smith and D’Ernest Johnson ran well, and linebacker Terence Garvin was the league’s player of the week with two interceptions and eight total tackles. The Apollos may face some tougher competition moving forward, but they may be the most complete and best-coached team in the league, or at least it appears so after one week.
