4. Washington Redskins

Believe it or not, Alex Smith knows all about being on the wrong end of a surprise trade after the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off the surprise move last year that sent the veteran quarterback to the Washington Redskins in order to allow the Patrick Mahomes era to get underway.

To top it off, Smith unfortunately suffered a devastating leg injury during the 2018 season that is expected to keep him out for all of 2019, and could even impact his NFL future in general.

One can only imagine how different the results of last season would have been in Washington if it wasn’t for Smith’s injury, but deep down the team knows they have to do what’s best for the organization moving forward.

If this means the Redskins decide to go with a new quarterback like Keenum or someone else under center moving forward, this wouldn’t come as a surprise one bit. At the end of the day, the last thing Washington wants to do is hold themselves back from being able to contend in the NFC since the talent seemed to be there on both sides of the football at times throughout the 2018 season.

Dating back to last season, this obviously wasn’t what the Redskins had in mind since acquiring Smith made it seem like they would be set for at least a few years, but sadly part of the NFL business is seeing how quickly things can change.
