Seattle Seahawks: 5 Realistic targets in 2019 NFL free agency
By Cory Kinnan
EDGE Shane Ray
In the past, the Seahawks have not been shy about bringing in players with a troubled past on a cost efficient deal in order to attempt reclaim them. Names such as Dion Jordan and Sheldon Richardson stand out as players in recent years that have found themselves wearing the navy and lime green after being shooed away from their former teams.
This offseason, a pass rusher in a similar situation will be looking for a new team as Shane Ray will almost certainly already have his bags packed after four years in Denver. The Missouri product saw the team decline his fifth-year option and even found himself as a healthy scratch multiple times this season.
Ray has publicly stated that he will start at the next place he plays, and Seattle may just have that opportunity for him. Frank Clark is set to hit the open market, and the Seahawks may not be willing to pay him what he is worth, and although Jordan was serviceable on the other side, making him a rotational piece may be best for both parties, if the team decides to re-sign him after his one-year deal.
Expect Ray to receive short term offers, no more than two years, for anywhere between $3-6 million annually until he can prove that he deserves a bigger payday. Given the Seahawks history, expect them to be a team in play for Ray’s services.
