Denver Broncos

Estimated 2019 Cap Space (per Over The Cap): $37.5 million

Yes, the Broncos did just get some great production from rookie running back Phillip Lindsay in 2018. And yes, Lindsay is a super affordable option for Denver to have as their top back.

However, time is running out for Broncos general manager John Elway to fix things for a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2015. Perhaps a big-time, splash signing like Le’Veon Bell is something Elway would try to do as a last-ditch effort to get Denver back on track as a winning franchise?

Even though he has a defensive background, new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio has worked with a bunch of teams that featured an offense that relied heavily on their rushing attack. Given Fangio’s age (60), it wouldn’t be a surprise if he wanted Denver to lean more on their run game next season.

The Broncos having a more run-oriented offense in 2019 makes even more sense given their recent trade for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. Denver would be wise not to put the offense on Flacco’s shoulders and a dependable rushing attack would take a bunch of pressure off of their quarterback.

If the Broncos do actually take this approach, adding Bell would be a great decision for them. While Lindsey performed well as Denver’s top back last season, he would make the team’s offense much more dangerous if he shifted into more of a complimentary role with Bell taking over the duties as their No. 1 running back.
