NFL Free Agency 2019: Predicting the New York Jets biggest moves
By Randy Gurzi
3. Adrian Peterson becomes RB target
With the Jets skipping over Le’Veon Bell in the previous prediction, they end up going for another big name here. With the news recently that they’re expected to release Isaiah Crowell, there will be a starting spot up for grabs. And one big-name veteran proved in 2018 that he still has plenty in the tank.
After struggling in 2017 with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals, Adrian Peterson found a home with the Washington Redskins this past season. After the team saw rookie Derrius Guice suffer a torn ACL, they added the former All-Pro late in the season. Peterson then said those who thought he was done didn’t know football — and he ended up backing up that talk.
Peterson ran for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns for the Redskins and may have been even better had they not lost their top two quarterbacks, which allowed defenses to focus on him down the stretch. For the Jets, he would be an experienced offensive weapon that can take some of the load off Darnold.
For Peterson, it would allow him to be a starter and continue to add to his career rushing total. As it sits now, Peterson is No, 8 all-time in rushing yards with 13,318. He once had his sights set on No. 1, but that seems like a long shot now given his age. Still, he’s motivated to keep churning out the yards and coming off a strong season which makes this a smart signing that won’t break the bank.
