Round 3, Pick 93: Miles Sanders, RB, Penn State

In the opposite fashion of Ridley, Miles Sanders absolutely crushed the combine and, as a result, has seen his draft stock rise into the third round. After backing up Saquon Barkley for two years in college, Sanders did not let the opportunity to start slip through his hands in 2018 at Penn State.

In his one season as the starting running back for the Nittany Lions, Sanders tallied nearly 1,300 yards on the ground, and scored nine rushing touchdowns. He caught an additional 24 passes for 139 yards out of the backfield. He then went to Indianapolis and displayed his athleticism, running a 4.49-second 40 yard dash and pumped out 20 reps on the bench press. This display of strength and speed did not go unnoticed.

The Jets are in desperate need of a running back heading into the 2019 offseason as the team is expected to cut Isaiah Crowell after just one season, and Bilal Powell is set to hit free agency after coming off a potentially career ending neck injury. While the team could invest heavily in free agency at the position, drafting a running back would be the more cost effective option.

This leaves the Jets with Elijah McGuire, who has averaged less than four yards per carry on his career. Miles Sanders could come in and be the Jets’ day one starter at running back, and here lands in New York at the end of the third round.
