4. Re-sign SS Clayton Geathers

In 2015, then-Indianapolis Colts’ general manager Ryan Grigson used a fourth-round pick on safety Clayton Geathers. He would play in all but one game during his debut season but started only two contests. He finished with 28 tackles, one pass defensed and a fumble recovery. He also added six stops on special teams.

Despite playing in only nine games in his second campaign, Geathers finished fifth on the club with 58 stops and knocked down five passes. After appearing in only five contests one year later, the talented defender played and started in 12 games this past season. Only linebackers Darius Leonard and Anthony Walker totaled more tackles than the four-year pro (89) in 2018

Over the course of the past three campaigns, Geathers has missed a total of 22 regular-season games and has still yet to record an interception. In the Colts’ playoff split with the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, he finished tied for second on the team with 19 tackles.

Last week, Colts’ current GM Chris Ballard told Mike Chappell of Fox59/CBS4 Sports last week at the NFL Scouting Combined that the team planned on speaking with the young defender and the Colts “want him back.”

The safety position figures to have its share of talent on the free-agent market (Landon Collins of the New York Giants certainly comes to mind). But retaining Geathers would be an ideal move as well.
