The Kansas City Chiefs are pretty much set on the offensive side of the ball. They need some quality depth at the running back position and to figure out what they are going to do at center with Mitch Morse hitting free agency. Besides that, they are pretty much set.

That being said, no matter how much offensive firepower a team has, it never hurts to add another weapon. When it comes to this team, adding a potential impact tight end to the mix would make a lot of sense.

Travis Kelce is the most talented tight end in the NFL. He is an absolute matchup nightmare in the middle of the field and is a major reason for the Chiefs’ offensive success. That being said, adding another impact player at the tight end position would only make this offense more difficult to defend. Enter Jared Cook.

The soon to be 32-year old Cook had the best season of his career last year with the Oakland Raiders. He was the primary target for Derek Carr in the Raiders’ offense, piling up 68 receptions for 896 yards and six touchdowns. He is a big and physical target in the middle of the field who can stretch the field a bit and go up and get the ball at the high-point well. More than anything, adding Cook to the mix would add more versatility to the Chiefs’ offense.

Imagine them lining up with Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins on the outside, paired with a two tight end set of Kelce and Cook. This would force the defense to stay in base to help defend the run, giving the Chiefs’ outside playmakers even more opportunity to make plays. Also, having both Kelce and Cook as red zone options would be a dream scenario for Mahomes.

Cook would not be a long-term piece for KC, but he is still a talented player who could bring a completely different element to an already dominant offense. He would also provide fantastic security in case of an injury to Kelce. As long as the price is right, signing Cook would be a no brainer for the Kansas City Chiefs.
