Bill O’Brien’s Houston Texans finished eighth in the NFL this past season in rushing yards per game. They were the only team in the 2018 postseason to run for at least 100 yards in a losing effort. Yet the club’s ground attack could use a few more bodies, as well as better play from the offensive line.

Running back Lamar Miller has been the team’s main ball-carrier these past three seasons and his main backup has been Alfred Blue. The latter is currently an unrestricted free agent. But the Texans’ second-leading rusher in 2018 in terms of yards was quarterback Deshaun Watson. And not all of that was by design. He finished with 551 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. In the playoff loss to Indianapolis, he totaled 76 of the club’s 105 rushing yards.

The Texans are hoping that D’Onta Foreman, who showed great potential in 2017, is truly healthy and ready to go this year. But in terms of a little insurance, veteran running back C.J. Anderson was picked up by the Los Angeles Rams late in the year (after being released by the Carolina Panthers).

He filled the bill when Todd Gurley was hurt and wound up seeing the majority of carries during the team’s three-game postseason run. Could he be a valuable asset to the Houston offense? The six-year pro certainly has his share of playoff experience as well.
