It wasn’t all that long ago that the Philadelphia Eagles were a deep football team along both the offensive and defensive lines. But financial decisions and free agency took its toll on the team during the 2018 offseason.

In terms of the defense, there have already been some significant changes made this year. End Michael Bennett was dealt to the New England Patriots. The team made sure veteran Brandon Graham didn’t hit the free-agent market, but also decided that it would not pick up the option on defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan.

The Birds did add interior presence Malik Jackson, cut loose by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pass-rushing end Vinny Curry, released last offseason by the Eagles, is back in Philadelphia after a season with the Buccaneers.

In 2018, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata played in 13 games for the Birds and made nine starts. But he’s opted for retirement and perhaps the team could use one more veteran inside for depth.

Stacy McGee was recently cut loose by the Washington Redskins. He was a bit of a disappointment the past two years in D.C. (after four years with the Raiders), but a change of venue could be a benefit for both the players and the Eagles.
