Round 3, Pick 84: Oshane Ximines, EGDE, Old Dominion

After missing out on a second round selection in this year’s draft, the Seahawks are back in the third round, and add at a talented edge rusher who slipped due to testing below the standard that he was hoping to. Oshane Ximines becomes the first player in Old Dominion history to be drafted and heads to Seattle with the 84th overall pick in the draft.

Touted as an ultra athletic edge rusher entering the pre-draft process, Ximines failed to back that up at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine at the beginning of this month. Ximines managed to run only a 4.78-second 40 yard dash, a 34-inch vertical jump, 118 inches on his broad jump, and just 7.13 seconds on his 3-cone drill. He did not test above the 67th percentile in any of his drills.

However, his film and production tell a different story and he should not fall out of the second day of the draft. During his four years with the Monarchs, Ximines tallied an impressive 32.5 sacks and 51 tackles for loss. In 2018, he recorded 11.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss, wreaking havoc in opponent’s backfields.

With Frank Clark on the franchise tag and a possible trade hanging over his head, the Seahawks will be in need of a talented pass rusher either this year or the next. Ximines would be a solid option for the Seahawks to pursue in the third round.
