16. Carolina Panthers: Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

There’s more than one way the Carolina Panthers could go in the 2019 NFL Draft. One would be to add a new defensive end after seeing Julius Peppers finally retire. While he wasn’t getting the kind of snaps he saw early in his career, Peppers was still bringing pressure after the quarterback. With him gone, Carolina could consider adding someone who can develop into their next edge presence.

Another option would be to land some offensive line help. Last season saw Cam Newton suffer through many bumps and bruises and saw his season end early due to a shoulder problem. Adding quality blockers would help limit the hits he takes, but nothing will ever truly eliminate all injury threats considering Newton’s playing style.

While both those options are on the table, Carolina decides to address the cornerback position, which is another need. It also allows them to maximize the talent they receive at this position. LSU’s Greedy Williams is the best corner in the class and he’s only still available here due to a mixture of quality players at other positions and needs of the team drafting ahead of them.

In years past, the Panthers defense was one that teams feared. Last season, that wasn’t the case down the stretch so the front office begins their work toward rebuilding that. Adding a potential shut down cornerback is a great way to do just that.
