Much has been made about the departure of David Irving, but that’s been overstated. Dallas didn’t have him last year and it was one of their best defensive seasons in recent memory. For that reason, they don’t feel the need to reach and they end up waiting to add a player to compete there.
That player they land is Daniel Wise who was a force for the Kansas Jayhawks defensive line. What he brings to the table is a player capable of generating a pass rush up the middle of the line. In four seasons with the Jayhawks, Wise was credited with 43 tackles for a loss and 17 sacks.
In Dallas, he would be able to compete for a spot in the base defense along with Maliek Collins and perhaps Tyrone Crawford who could slide inside thanks to the addition of Robert Quinn at right defensive end. Even if he doesn’t win the job, Wise would get a lot of time in a line that loves to rotate and keep players fresh.
