Round 3, Pick 93: Dre’Mont Jones, IDL, Ohio State

Continuing to add talent along their front seven, the Jets use the third rounder that they received from the New Orleans Saints for Teddy Bridgewater to select Ohio State defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones. While the Jets re-signed Henry Anderson and have yet to trade Leonard Williams and do not look poised to do so, adding Jones would give New York some much needed depth and prep for the potential departure of Williams.

Jones’ draft stock has gone in the opposite direction of Banogu’s since the combine. During his time in Indianapolis, Jones was expected to test off the charts and solidify himself as a top-50 selection; instead he looked slow and unathletic.

Measuring in at 6-2 and 281 pounds, similar to Ed Oliver, Jones ran a 5.12-second 40-yard dash and a 7.71-second 3-cone drill. Jones’ saving grace may be his explosiveness, posting a 31.5-inch vertical jump and over a nine-foot broad jump.

While Jones had a productive career with the Buckeyes, he will need to nail down his individual visits and workouts with teams in order to see his stock rise again. For now, he lands in the Big Apple at the end of day-three with the Jets.
