Round 1, Pick 20: Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

During the offseason, the Steelers added some help at cornerback as they picked up Steven Nelson, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs. As of now, he’s slated to be battle Artie Burns for the right to start opposite Joe Haden.

Either way, it wouldn’t be the worst duo in the league, but it’s not good enough especially considering the fact that Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry and A.J. Green are all in the AFC North. In addition to the talent they will face, Haden is now 30 years old and won’t be around forever.

Here, the Steelers improve their secondary while also getting a lot younger by selecting Greedy Williams out of LSU. The No. 1 rated corner by many experts, Williams is still on the board mostly due to teams going after different positions — with the D-line reining supreme this year.

That proves to be a great thing for the Steelers who continue to add to their defense with their day one selections. Selecting Williams here makes it seven seasons in a row where the take a defensive player, dating back to 2013 with Jarvis Jones.

They’ve had a mixed bag of results in doing so, which is why they continue to need help. As for Williams, he looks to be a legitimate No. 1 corner who can learn a lot from the veteran Haden as he transitions from the collegiate game to the NFL.
