The Detroit Lions seven-round 2019 mock draft series continues with a look at another scenario featuring a defensive player at the top of the draft.

We are now just days away from 2019 NFL Draft week and numerous scenarios remain possible for what the Detroit Lions will do. Given the plethora of options, and that decisions made at the top of the draft have ramifications for what happen later in the draft, I have been playing out a variety of scenarios in the form of a series of Detroit Lions seven-round mock drafts. This is the third edition in the series.

As a reminder, each mock draft in this series is meant to create a unique look at what the Lions could do — not necessarily what I think the Lions should do or as a prediction of what they will do. To make sure the series explores a variety of scenarios the first round pick will be different for each seven-round mock and the picks will be made with the help of a different set of draft rankings each time.

The mock draft is played out in a mock draft simulator, this time the mock draft simulator on Fanspeak set to run with the big board from CBS. I make each pick for the Lions based on whoever is available while the other picks are made in the simulator.

Version 1.0
Version 2.0

For the second time in this series the mock opens with a defensive player, though this one is much more likely to be controversial — and not just with Michigan State fans because he’s a former Michigan Wolverine. The first round pick in version 3.0 isn’t one of the most popular names for the Lions in most mock drafts, but it is at a position that has popped up in mocks from time to time.

Now let’s get on with version 3.0.
