If Frank Clark is ultimately traded by the Seattle Seahawks as they try to work out a long-term contract, where could the pass-rusher land?

Among the several NFL players that had the franchise tag placed on them in the 2019 offseason was Frank Clark of the Seattle Seahawks. Clark was hit with the tag, though, with the intention of having time to work out a long-term contract. To this point, that has not happened. Thus, the trade rumors are starting to circle a little bit.

On Friday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that it remains a “possibility” that the Seahawks will trade Clark if the two sides can not work out a deal. How likely of a possibility a trade is remains to be seen, but it’s definitely something that could happen and could potentially make sense for all parties involved.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at three teams — not including NFC West rivals like the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers that could use an edge rusher — that should get on the phones and try to work out a Frank Clark trade with Seattle.

3. Oakland Raiders

Ever since trading Khalil Mack prior to the 2018 season, the Oakland Raiders (namely head coach Jon Gruden) have talked about the need to get a pass-rusher. With three first-round picks in the 2019 draft, it stands to reason that they could go that route to answer the call. However, the Raiders have shown an uncanny willingness to trade, so perhaps a deal for Clark, which would land them a proven commodity on the edge, might be more their speed.

To be fair, you can fully argue just how good the Raiders are going to be in the immediate future, and many would say they are still a far cry from competing in a meaningful way. The front office, however, seems to not read the situation in the same manner. As such, going after a proven pass-rusher like Clark and trading some of their many assets to get him might be just what they’d like to do.

2. New York Jets

There is no question that, despite the offseason improvements the New York Jets made, that there is still more work to be done with Gang Green. The offensive line still needs upgrading, but it’s also abundantly clear that the Jets need to beef up their pass rush, and many have assumed that they could do so with the third-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. But what if they could address other needs there while still landing a game-changing pass-rusher?

Trading for Frank Clark would afford them that opportunity. Without a second-round pick in 2019, the Jets don’t exactly have a ton of capital to work with from this year. However, if they could offer a mid-round pick and a future early-round pick and land the pass-rusher from Seattle, that would work in their favor as it would put them closer to their ultimate goal of contending.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

After trading Dee Ford and releasing Justin Houston this offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs are in need of bolstering their edge pass rush moving forward. There’s no question that a player like Clark would do that, offering Kansas City both productivity and youth at the position, which it would appear they want — even though Ford would’ve fit the bill for them.

This isn’t a cut-and-dry matter for the Chiefs. They have been burned recently by taking gambles on players with character concerns, so you have to wonder if Brett Veach would be willing to do that with Clark. Having said that, the fit makes a great deal of sense and Clark could help Kansas City build up their defense so that it isn’t a detriment to their high-powered offense.
