Chances of the Bears moving up from the third round are low

As mentioned, the Chicago Bears don’t make their first pick until the third round, the 87th overall pick. That was courtesy of the Khalil Mack trade and last year’s draft-day trade that brought Anthony Miller to Chicago so even though they need to stand pat for some time (for now), they are very happy with who they have in return.

Of course, some people are speculating that Pace might make a move to at least get into the late second round (getting into the first round is too costly). Pace acknowledged, however, that without a lot of capital moving up is difficult (per ChicagoBears.com):

"That’d be tough. It’d be hard, just because we don’t have a lot of ammunition… You just don’t have as much ammunition maybe to go up. At the same time, you guys know how we operate. It’s kind of a ‘no regrets’ mindset. If there’s a player there falling that we have great value on, we’re going to explore it."

So Pace says it’ll be very difficult to move up. He doesn’t dismiss the idea completely, though. We could expect Pace to stand pat, or he may just move up, at least to the late second round. He says one thing then contradicts it. It’s fun playing this game.

With the depth of this draft, expect Pace to stay at No. 87. He’s had the advantage of scouting players rated in the third round and beyond with the other teams concentrating on first and second rounds as a priority.
