If you were to take the pulse of Cowboys Nation on social media, Jaylon Ferguson may be the last name anyone wants to hear called when Dallas is on the clock. That kind of reaction is rare to see when you’re discussing a player with the kind of production Ferguson had in college.

In his four seasons, he was credited with an amazing 67.5 tackles for a loss and 45 sacks. He was considered a decent prospect in 2018 had he decided to enter the draft, but he returned for his senior season and had by far his best campaign.

Ferguson also meets a need for Dallas. While they do have DeMarcus Lawrence and Robert Quinn starting this year, they don’t have a long-term plan at right end. Quinn is on a one-year deal, Tyrone Crawford isn’t getting any younger (and could be better inside) and Randy Gregory is once again suspended and really shouldn’t be counted on.

Even with all that being true, Ferguson just doesn’t excite the masses. He ran a 4.82-second 40 at his pro day and just didn’t stand out as an exceptional athlete in any area. However, the coaches apparently like that he has ideal size (6-5, 271 pounds) and length. Plus he has some great tape to look at as well. Still, this feels like Taco Charlton all over again.
