3. CB Trayvon Mullen (Second Round, No. 40)

I was convinced the Raiders would spend one of their three first-round picks on a cornerback, especially after how awful their pass defense was this past season. That ended up not being the case, which was concerning heading into Day 2.

Then they nabbed Trayvon Mullen atop the second round, and my concerns were quelled.

Honestly, Mullen was one of my favorite cornerbacks of the 2019 draft class. Although not a star during his college career (outside of the 2019 National Championship Game), the Clemson cover man was exceptional for three seasons. He excels in man coverage, using his tremendous size, physicality and aggressiveness to outwork receivers.

Sure, there are some things to work on. His technique must improve, and he’s not the ballhawk the Raiders could use to create turnovers. Still, if his productivity and consistency in coverage can translate to the next level, Mullen will be a welcomed addition to the Oakland secondary.

Considering I thought he could sneak into the first round, Mullen offers good value for the Raiders at No. 40. I wouldn’t call him a steal, but that opinion could change once he gets on the field. More importantly, he addresses a need at one of the game’s most important positions.
