Last offseason, the New England Patriots were seeking a replacement for veteran left tackle Nate Solder, who signed a lucrative contract with the New York Giants. Just over a year ago, the franchise used the first of two first-round picks on University of Georgia offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn, but he missed the entire season due to injury.

This year, he figures to take over at left tackle for Trent Brown, who, like Solder, got big bucks in free agency — in this case, the Oakland Raiders. Opposite Wynn is Marcus Cannon, who started 13 regular-season games and all three postseason contests for the eventual Super Bowl champions.

But veteran LaAdrian Waddle is now a member of the Buffalo Bills, meaning the Pats were in search of some experienced depth at tackle. And help is apparently on the way in the form of versatile Jared Veldheer, who has agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the club (via Spotrac).

In nine NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos, the 31-year old blocker has played in 118 regular-season contests and made 113 starts. He’s also seen action inside as well. A year ago with the Broncos, he was a 12-game starter for the team from the Mile High City. And now he joins an organization that employs legendary offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia. All told, it appears to be a win-win for the player and the Patriots.
