Kansas City Chiefs: 10-6

The Kansas City Chiefs knew they were taking a risk by moving on from Alex Smith sooner than expected to get the Patrick Mahomes era underway. But never in a million years did they ever think the quarterback would go on to win NFL MVP during his first full year as the starter.

Watching Mahomes finish with 50 touchdown passes last season sounds insane just to even think about. One can only imagine what he’s going to do for an encore presentation during his sophomore campaign.

Of course, unlike this time last year, Mahomes will be dealing with a new level of pressure following his MVP campaign. He and the Chiefs will be playing with targets on their backs after last year’s amazing success that saw them earn a trip to the AFC Championship.

While the motivation will be there for Kansas City after nearly earning a trip to the Super Bowl, that’s not going to be easy.

Despite how dominant the Chiefs looked at times throughout last season, keep in mind just how close they came to losing the AFC West title to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Facing each team from the NFC North and AFC South will only add to the pressure that Kansas City will be dealing with in 2019, meaning the Chiefs could take a small step back record-wise.

Not to mention, when looking at how competitive the AFC West is expected to be with teams like the Chargers and the Oakland Raiders improving this offseason, the Chiefs will have their work cut out for them.
