3. Who is the WR2?

T.Y. Hilton is the number one wideout on the roster. It’s unquestioned. No one comes close to him. The Colts are going to rock two tight end sets a lot, which means they won’t be going with a ton of three wide receiver sets, but that puts so much more importance on the wide receiver lining up opposite of Hilton.

Will it be the free agent acquisition of Devin Funchess? Second-round draft pick Parris Campbell? Maybe it’ll be one of the many other wide receivers they have on the depth chart.

Over the last five seasons, the Colts’ No. 2 wide receivers have averaged 79.8 targets, 48 receptions, 583.2 yards and three touchdowns. Yes, tight ends and running backs cut into those numbers, but you simply need more of a threat on the other side of Hilton. It makes the offense more explosive and difficult to defend, but it also makes Hilton make difficult to shut down because he has less attention on him.

Who’s going to take that number two spot? Are they going to go with the big receiver in Funchess? Maybe they like the explosive playmaking nature that you get from a guy like Campbell. The bottom line is that they need to find the guy that’s going to line up over there sooner rather than later to get the offense set.
