Ted Ginn Jr. bounced around multiple teams in the NFL before signing with the New Orleans Saints. At age 34, will Ginn eventually retire as a Saint?

Every year, it seems like NFL players get younger and younger. It’s rare to see a player who is in their mid-30s still on a team. Either they decided to retire or sign with a team for the last chance at glory. An argument can be made for which side is better but, most of the time, players opt for retirement. Players like Ted Ginn Jr. are a dime a dozen in the NFL now.

Ginn started his career in the NFL after being drafted by the Miami Dolphins. He played with Miami for a few seasons before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers. Eventually, Ginn would be lured away by both the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals and then returned to the Panthers. Finally, in 2017, Ginn signed with the New Orleans Saints.

Since then, Ginn has made a pretty decent impact. While he doesn’t compete with Michael Thomas, he is a good safety net for Drew Brees. Despite his age, Ginn is still one of the fastest guys in the league, too. He was a good pickup for the Saints and looks like he’s going to have another good year with the team. His age is something that can’t be ignored, though.

Taking his age into account, it’s only fair to assume that Ginn will retire sooner rather than later. He might have a few good years left but that’s about it. Before then, will the New Orleans Saints decide to keep him or will Ginn head elsewhere?

Looking at Ginn’s stats, he could definitely lure in a few teams. He did sustain an injury last season but has the potential for an upswing. As mentioned above, Ginn is still speedy and, implemented in the right system, could thrive.

Teams like the Jaguars, 49ers or even the Panthers could use a player like Ginn at this point. Each team lacks a true playmaker at wide receiver and needs help. However, one thing that separates them from the Saints is contending for a Super Bowl, which could come into play when his contract comes up at the end of 2019.

Re-signing with the Saints will leave both him and the team happy. It’s a win-win situation. The Saints will get that veteran presence to bolster the receiving corps while Ginn still gets to play for a few more years.

Even though Ginn hasn’t hinted at retirement, his window is slowly closing. He could have a chance with another team, but starting over now seems pointless. More than likely, Ginn will retire as part of the New Orleans Saints.
