Gerald McCoy: 5 Possible landing spots for Pro Bowler in free agency
Dallas Cowboys
The breakout of the Dallas Cowboys defense in the 2018 season was a major catalyst to the team winning the NFC East and making it to the Divisional Round of the postseason. And, after this offseason, they should largely be bringing back the same group that did break out, in addition to adding some reinforcements in the form of Robert Quinn at defensive end and second-round pick Trysten Hill at defensive tackle.

Even with Hill in the fold on the interior of the line, though, the Cowboys still lack a true game-changer in their defensive tackle rotation. There is undeniable talent to make a serviceable rotation up front with the likes of Tyrone Crawford, Maliek Collins, Antwaun Woods, Daniel Ross, Christian Covington and Hill. Despite that deep room, though, adding someone like Gerald McCoy would dramatically improve their effectiveness.
Despite the fact that McCoy is 31 years old and coming off one of the worst seasons of his career, no player currently on the Cowboys roster can provide the interior pressure that the former Buccaneer is capable of. He had legitimate double-digit sack potential up the middle, which would be a huge boost for this group.
There’s no question that defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli prefers a good rotation up front, but that may be what McCoy needs to maximize his effectiveness on the other side of 30 years old. Limiting his snaps to a degree could allow him to stay fresher and be the force that he’s proven he’s capable of being throughout his career.
