Kansas City Chiefs: 3 Reasons Damien Williams deserves starting job

3. Hyde’s numbers aren’t that impressive
With all due respect to Hyde since there have been times throughout his career in which he’s looked capable of being a top running back in the NFL, consistency has unfortunately been a major issue over the years, and the numbers will back that claim up.

Just look at how Hyde has yet to break the 1,000-yard rushing mark (988 rushing yards in 2016) during his career, and it’s easy to make the case over why he shouldn’t be the starter in Kansas City over Williams.
It would be one thing if Hyde was struggling to receive the right opportunities to emerge as a No. 1 running back, but other than his rookie campaign in 2014, the opportunity has been there just about every season.
Instead of leaning towards the experience approach by giving the starting role to Hyde, the Chiefs’ offense seems like it would be more explosive with Williams as the No. 1 option in the backfield.
Plus, knowing Kansas City, even if Hyde is listed as the No. 2 running back come September, the Chiefs are still going to find a way to make sure he receives the proper carries to make the offense that much more dangerous.
