He was the second of the team’s two fourth-round draft choices in 2016. And now it’s season number four for the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback that wears that number. Dak Prescott has been the subject of much discussion this offseason due in part to the fact that his contract expires following this upcoming campaign. And with the recent news of Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz’s four-year extension, some may feel that the Cowboys’ quarterback may be due for an even bigger payday.

The three-year pro’s résumé is solid. Prescott has started every game for the club the past three seasons and that includes three postseason contests. The Cowboys have won the NFC East two the past three years and finished with a 9-7 record in 2017. He’s hit on 66.1 percent of his passes for 10,876 yards and more than twice as many touchdowns (67) as interceptions (25). He has also rushed for a combined 944 yards and 18 touchdowns in a 48-game regular-season span.

This past year, the Cowboys offensive line certainly had some issues. Prescott was sacked a stunning 56 times, fumbled on 12 occasions and lost six of those miscues — all of those career worsts. But he was also a different player once the team swung the deal for wide receiver Amari Cooper. The 6-2, 238-pound pro threw 12 touchdown passes (five to Cooper) and only three interceptions during the team’s 7-1 finish after a dreadful 3-5 start.

All told, don’t be surprised if Prescott gets his extension before the start of the upcoming season. It would make sense for everyone involved.
