Todd Haley did not work out in Cleveland either, relieved of his duties with Jackson eight weeks into the season. With interim offensive coordinator Kitchens now the head coach, the Browns were in need of two new coordinators.
They ended up landing a defensive coordinator who piloted the Carolina Panthers’ defense during their Super Bowl run, and one with head coaching experience in Steve Wilks. The ability to add a guy with the experience of Wilks will be crucial as Kitchens navigates his new role.
Offensively, Cleveland only managed to lure a guy responsible for one of the highest scoring offenses a year ago in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers and who was on the short list of head coaching candidates for the Jets and Green Bay Packers in Todd Monken. Versed in the air raid offensive style, look out as Mayfield will have the freedom to sling the rock all over the field.
