Running Back: D’Andre Swift, Georgia

This may have been the easiest overall pick for this 2020 NFL Draft spread offense. Establishing traits is essential for this scheme fit, but when you have a running back who has all the qualities to fit every system, it’s a no brainer. D’Andre Swift undeniably fits that billing.

I need a runner who has the patience and decisiveness to run both inside and outside zone concepts. The greatest thing about Swift, though, is he is not limited by the zone-running scheme. He is a versatile runner who can excel in any style, which leaves big opportunities for some counter and trap action from my mobile offensive line (more on that forthcoming).

What makes Swift special is the all-around game he exhibits in the passing game. He has soft, natural hands while bringing a nice variety of route running ability from the running back position.

When Swift is able to get into open space, whether it be as a runner or receiver, he is an absolute menace to deal with. Size, speed, pass receiving ability, blocking — Swift checks all the boxes you would want in a lead back.

Others considered: Travis Etienne (Clemson), Anthony McFarland (Maryland), Cam Akers (Florida State)
