3. Anthony Brown, CB

Byron Jones was selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft and started out his career splitting time between corner and free safety. He then moved to safety full time in 2016 before defensive backs coach Kris Richard moved him back to corner in 2018.

Jones was able to shine in the role which sets him up nicely as he enters a contract year. While Jones does deserve a new deal, he may end up asking for a lot more money than the team would be willing to pay — especially considering the fact that they do have some young options on the team to develop.

With Jones getting the attention, it’s easy to gloss over another rookie entering a contract year. Slot corner Anthony Brown is entering his fourth season in the league and is someone that Richard really likes.

Brown has never been considered a shutdown corner, but he vastly outplayed his draft status. A member of the Cowboys historic 2016 draft haul, Brown came to the team by way of Purdue in the sixth round. He’s started 30 games over his first three seasons and has 149 tackles, four interceptions, three sacks, and three forced fumbles.

He may not be a household name, but he’s a savvy player who does his job. Dallas would be wise to explore what it would take to lock him up long-term which ensures they continue to have someone who can handle the difficult role of following slot receivers around.
