Chicago Bears: 2019 Undrafted rookies who could make roster
Alex Bars, Offensive Lineman
Here is another Golden Domer who I feel could make the team. I think Alex Bars has a better shot at making the team than Mustipher. At 6-6, 315 pounds, he has the size to be in the NFL. He also gives the Bears line some flexibility. At Notre Dame, he played both guard spots and right tackle. That experience could help him become one of the main backups on the line.
As with Mustipher, Bars also has experience with Hiestand. He played well under Hiestand. He suffered a knee injury that wiped out his senior season. That injury kept him from getting drafted. He wanted a chance to reunite with Hiestand and got it when he went undrafted. He was cleared last month and participated in veteran minicamp. That allowed him to get some work in before training camp starts. He got the blood flowing again and got some of the rust off.
When healthy, Bars has the strength to hold rushers. He has a strong punch and has the ability to steady his opponent and steer him as well. He does a good job when getting to the second level.
If Bars shows that he’s over his knee injury he could be an important piece to the Bears’ offensive line. Long is the captain and undisputed leader of the line and team, but the team needs to make a big decision.
He’s due $8 million next year and has a history of injury. WIth same key players having their contracts up soon, Chicago needs to free up some cap space. If Bars is healthy and shows he can handle being a starter, he could be a great replacement for Long.
