Biggest RB Sleeper: Rashaad Penny, Seattle Seahawks

In the 2018 season, the Seattle Seahawks led the NFL in rushing yards per game with 160. NFL fans counted the Seahawks out as the Legion of Boom was gone and Russell Wilson was seemingly alone in his plight.

Instead, on the back of their rushing game, they made it back to the playoffs once again. The running back duties were the handled by three players. Chris Carson led the way, Mike Davis then fell second in the pecking order. Third in the group was our fantasy football sleeper for 2019, Rashaad Penny.

Penny came into training camp last season out of shape and not game-ready, which all but lost him a shot at being the top back for the Seahawks last season. However, as he played his way into game shape, he showed that he can be a factor when he gets the ball in his hands.

Statistically, Penny was the most effective running back in Seattle, recording 85 carries for 419 yards and averaging 4.9 yards per carry. With Davis now gone via free agency and Carson proving to be an injury concern in his first two seasons, Penny has a huge opportunity before him with the Seahawks.

Carson won’t be a non-factor, but there is a real chance that Penny could create a bigger role with his overall abilities. The “wow” factor that certain players have is clearly there for Penny, and he just has to prove he is ready to handle a larger load.

The potential for Penny as an RB2 in fantasy football is apparent with even more room to grow if Pete Carroll and his team decided to name him the starter at the beginning of the season.
