Arizona Cardinals: Hakeem Butler, WR

Leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft, no team was in the news more than the Arizona Cardinals. This was not only because they had the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, but also because of the fact that they were considering doing something unheard of — parting with a quarterback they had just taken in the top-10 the previous year.

General manager Steve Keim moved up to the 10th overall pick in 2018 in order to select Josh Rosen out of UCLA. Expected to be the face of the franchise, Rosen’s status came into question as Keim hired Kliff Kingsbury who reportedly loved Kyler Murray.

With Keim still employed, there was a question as to whether or not the team would actually shift gears so quickly, and in the end, they did as they took Murray and traded Rosen to Miami for less than what they should have gotten.

That story dominated the headlines, but what was somewhat glossed over was the fact that Arizona had a stellar draft overall. Murray is a great prospect, even if the process leading to his selection was weird. But they also landed Andy Isabella in the second and Zach Allen in the third.

Then in the fourth round, they got themselves quite a steal in wideout Hakeem Butler. Checking into the Combine at 6-foot-5 and 227-pounds, Butler is a massive target outside but also proved to have plenty of speed clocking in at 4.48 in the 40-yard dash.

He does have some concerns with drops but during his final season with Iowa State, Butler made some remarkable catches deep downfield. He constantly made highlight-reel receptions due to his long arms and wide catch radius. It may take some time for him to adapt to the NFL, but Butler could prove to be a long-term starter for Arizona.
